Direct From The Desk Of - Robert F. Dorr - World Famous Author On Military Topics

I'm an author on military topics. My latest book is "Hell Hawks!" co-authored with Thomas D. Jones, a history of an American P-47 Thunderbolt fighter group in World War II (signed copies available from me at robert.f.dorr@cox.net, or use the attached link).

In writing about aviation for 50-plus years, I often find myself returning to the story of the Cessna L-19 (O-1) Bird Dog—that extraordinary liaison craft, artillery spotter, forward air controller, trainer and hack used by the Air Force, Army and Marine Corps and dozens of overseas air forces.

The Marines who flew Bird Dogs in Vietnam often found themselves at low altitude with plenty of metal flying around and they often had opportunities to save their buddies.

A flight demonstration by an L-19 Bird Dog flying team like the Lone Star Bird Dawgs perform is an excellent way to honor those who served, to instill young people with the excitement of aviation, and to entertain and thrill audiences.

Although I'm currently working on a book about another World War II subject, I'm sure I will return to the faithful L-19 (O-1) in future writings.

Order your signed copy of "Hell Hawks" ($31.64) directly from Robert F. Dorr using his email address above.
